IRVINE, Calif., September 12, 2012 – ASIS 2012 – HID Global, a worldwide leader in secure identity solutions, and ASSA ABLOY AB announced today that they settled two lawsuits they had filed against Farpointe Data involving two patents related to multi-technology readers and other issues.
Prior to the settlement, HID Global had obtained a significant victory relating to the two asserted patents. In particular, the United States District Court for the Central District of California granted HID Global’s Motions for Summary Judgment finding that the asserted claims of both of the patents are valid and that various Farpointe readers infringed one or both such patents. In particular, the Court held that numerous Farpointe Data Pyramid and Delta™ products infringe U.S. Patent No. 5,952,935 and numerous Farpointe Data Delta products infringe U.S. Patent No. 7,439,862. In addition, the Court held that the asserted claims of the ‘935 and ‘862 patents are valid.
In the lawsuit, HID Global had also alleged that Farpointe Data misused the term ‘HID Compatible.’ As a result of the lawsuit, Farpointe Data has agreed to modify the infringing products. As part of the settlement, Farpointe has agreed to stop using the term ‘HID compatible’ to describe its products and will encourage its partners and resellers to do the same. Other terms of the settlement are to remain confidential.
