HID Global Expands Role as Trusted Advisor on Privacy Issues for Secure Identity Management

LAS VEGAS, Nev., - 2010 ISC West - March 23, 2010 - HID Global, a trusted leader in solutions that deliver secure identity, today announced it has achieved a second level of certification through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), strengthening the company's role as an expert and trusted advisor on issues related to U.S. and international privacy laws and information management practices.

The IAPP has awarded HID Global's director of Government Relations, Kathleen Carroll, the designation of Certified Information Privacy Professional/Government (CIPP/G).  This follows her 2007 IAPP CIPP designation, which was the industry's first broad-based certification that addressed the fundamentals of privacy law, technology, operations and information management.  The CIPP/G certification extends the earlier CIPP certification and is designed exclusively for employees of U.S. federal government agencies, employees of state, county and local governments, as well as those who work with such government entities.

"Kathleen continues to take the lead in providing HID Global's partners and customers with critical support as they navigate today's increasingly demanding environment in the area of privacy," said Denis Hébert, HID Global's president and CEO.  "Our value-added privacy service is part of our commitment to protecting the privacy of anyone who uses our systems, while ensuring that our integrator partners are addressing privacy concerns during the design and implementation of systems using our technology.  We have an extremely important role in actively addressing the privacy implications that may arise from the use of our technology, and Kathleen ensures we are providing in-depth counsel, education and guidance regarding the very latest in policy updates and privacy best practices."

As part of HID Global's value-added privacy service, the company assists integrators, customers and other partners in the areas of privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and other activities that mitigate privacy concerns.  The company also regularly contributes to the development and support of public policies that safeguard individual privacy while fostering the responsible use of identification technology.

"HID Global is a very vocal proponent of identity management solutions that, first and foremost, address the privacy impact on individuals," said Carroll.  "We have three primary objectives:  to promote the responsible use of our technology; to deliver privacy-sensitive solutions if and when personal information resides on the identification document; and to help ensure that our valued integrator partners understand the latest privacy regulations.  With this latest certification, we continue to strengthen our position as the recognized leader in addressing smart-card technology-related privacy concerns."

The IAPP, the industry's largest and most successful professional association, confers the CIPP designation on individuals who have passed a rigorous and comprehensive examination covering management techniques, regulatory familiarity, privacy terms, and privacy protection case studies. The CIPP designation confirms that its holder has achieved understanding of key legal, technical and operational concepts and applications in the handling of consumer information. This certification distinguishes Kathleen Carroll among the upper tier of privacy industry professionals, assuring a high standard of knowledge and achievement within the profession.

The CIPP program from the IAPP was developed in coordination with the Ponemon Institute, a top privacy research firm, as well as corporate privacy leaders from HP, Microsoft, Nationwide Insurance Company, Procter & Gamble, General Electric, Walt Disney Company, eBay, Intuit, Privacy and Information Management Services P.C. and Corporate Privacy Group.
