HID Global Expands multiCLASS™ Product Line to Offer Most Complete Multi-technology Migration Solution

IRVINE, Calif., September 10, 2007 – HID Global, the trusted leader in providing solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced the launch of new additions to the company’s versatile multiCLASS™ reader line. By increasing HID’s market-leading, multi-technology GSA-approved multiCLASS product line to include a keypad reader (for dual-factor authentication) and a mullion-mount reader (for MiniProx retrofit replacement), HID Global has once again clearly asserted its commitment to support 13.56 MHz technologies. The company’s offerings encompass the industry’s broadest range of open standard contactless smart card products, available from over 40,000 resellers worldwide.

New additions to the expanded multiCLASS line include:

  • RP15: A new reader designed to simplify MiniProx retrofit replacement, providing a simple installation solution for customers upgrading from the widely used MiniProx readers to high performance contactless smart cards capabilities; and
  • RPK40: A multi-technology keypad reader that combines contactless card presentation with a personal identification number (PIN) to support dual-factor identity authentication.

The enhancements combine 125 kHz proximity and 13.56 MHz contactless smart card and reader technologies into a single reader, providing additional support for users upgrading from the most popular proximity cards to the most popular contactless smart cards. The multiCLASS line, which also includes the RP40 reader, provides a clear multi-technology migration path for the large installed bases of HID, Indala and AWID customers.

With multiCLASS, the customer has the ability to transition to contactless smart cards over time while incorporating the use of multiple card technologies within a single building or across multiple facilities. Additionally, customers can transition from disparate proximity technologies to a unified contactless smart card solution from HID, a leading manufacturer in the access control industry and in the delivery of secure identity solutions.

"With further product line enhancements, the multiCLASS™ reader line is the ultimate migration tool. With our unique card technology read selection feature, customers have endless card management flexibility, with security and simplicity," said Damon Dageenakis, HID’s Product Manager, Reader Products.

multiCLASS readers are available in multiple compatibility configurations, classified as ordering configurations. The readers are capable of reading some of the most popular 13.56 MHz contactless access control technologies including: iCLASS®, ISO 14443B, ISO 14443A CSN (MIFARE®, DESFire®), ISO 15693 CSN  and US Government PIV II credentials. Additionally, the reader supports HID Prox, Indala Proximity or AWID formats, with additional 125 kHz card technology compatibilities available later this year.

Recognized and honored by Access Control & Security Systems magazine as one of the Top 20 new products for 2006, the multiCLASS card reader line reflects the highest level technology innovation in the security industry. multiCLASS comes with a lifetime warranty and is now available from HID’s network of distributors, OEMs, and system integrators worldwide.
