Appointment signals commitment to IP-enabled devices

IRVINE, CA., August 31, 2006 – HID Global, a leading manufacturer in the access control industry, today announced that Tom Heiser has been named vice president of VertX/IP Devices, reporting to Mark Scaparro, executive vice president of sales. In this position, Mr. Heiser will be responsible for setting the business objectives, strategy development and tactical action plans for VertX and IP devices on a worldwide basis. By working with HID Global customers at all levels, Mr. Heiser and his team will provide customers with services that help grow their business and better meet the needs of end-users.

Heiser's appointment reveals HID Global's commitment to the growing need for open architecture network devices. Bringing more than 20 years of experience in the access control industry to HID Global, Mr. Heiser is uniquely qualified to begin working immediately with customers in this distinctive market segment.

Heiser states, "I see VertX and EdgeReader playing a role in the convergence of logical and physical security. With the industry on the cusp of convergence, HID Global sees a great opportunity in network products."

Developed specifically for alarm services customers, the VertX CS is a central station hardware platform that enables dealers to offer affordable fully featured access control service options to end users in the traditional alarm marketplace.

"As a powerful enabling technology platform, VertX is forward-looking, and could represent the next significant leap in access control," Heiser said.

Heiser also leads HID Global's development of IP enabled devices, representing a new concept for the future of access control, and fitting naturally within the industry's IT-focused evolution. He sees the company actively participating in the creation and adoption of new IP standards supporting open architecture. The EdgeReader, a market-ready IP-connected reader, "is a whole new direction," Heiser states, "with power and intelligence sitting right at the door."

Prior to joining HID Global, Mr. Heiser was with Tyco Safety Products, where he was Director of Product Management for Access Control and Video Systems (ACVS). He has also held positions of increasing responsibility for ADT Security Services and Wells Fargo Alarm services.
