ASSA ABLOY's Identification Technology Group (ITG) Achieves Prestigious ISO 9001 2000 Certification

Irvine, CA (August 28, 2002) ASSA ABLOY's ITG announced that three of its business units, HID Corporation, Card Technologies and Services (CTS), and the Research and Development Center, have attained ISO 9001 2000 certification. The ISO 9000 certification family was created for organizations that strive to enhance their performance through the implementation of a quality management system.

This single certifiable standard now applies to all organizations regardless of size, industry, product or service. The emphasis of ISO 9001 2000 is on continual improvement, efficiency, and customer satisfaction: understanding customers' current and future needs, meeting their requirements, and trying to exceed customer expectations.

An organization seeks ISO 9001 2000 certification in order to:

  • Demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide end-users confidence that the product meets precise manufacturing standards.
  • Continually improve its quality management system.

To sustain and oversee ITG's ongoing commitment performance and quality, Jim Johnson was promoted to Director of Business Systems. In this position he will manage ITG's business systems and procedures. This includes implementation of uniform quality, ISO 9001 2000, and process improvement programs across all ITG facilities. Prior to his promotion, Jim was Smart Card Manager, providing technical support to ITG's marketing and sales staff, and defining future smart card products. Jim earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University and an M.S. in Management from Purdue University.

"ITG's ISO committee began updating all of our documentation to the new standard beginning January, 2002," said Mr. Johnson. "The committee's efforts, combined with that of the internal audit team at all three business units, were instrumental in achieving this challenging objective."

The quality system must be examined at regular intervals, and must be audited prior to certification. To date, fewer than 100 U.S. companies have achieved ISO 9001 2000 certification.

ITG is an ASSA ABLOY business entity made up of separate ASSA ABLOY Group companies focused on current and emerging identification solutions. ITG is based out of ASSA ABLOY's U.S. headquarters in Irvine, California.
